Like many others Destiny 2 players, I slowly dug The final formpost-campaign, especially as I prepare to face the particularly demanding raid of the expansion. Unsurprisingly, many of these quests, centered around acquiring rare and powerful armor and weapons, are some of the best things to be found in The final formcontinuing Bungie’s tradition of having strong tails in its expansions. The final form has many pleasant surprises, but one of them, Dual Destiny, caused controversy among players this week.
Dual Destiny is the latest exotic mission to be honored Destiny 2, and it is one of the most unique. Exotic missions were acclaimed, such as The Whisper and Zero Hour (which returned to the game via In the lightt a few months ago), but Dual Destiny is the first to have a real gimmick outside of a timer and some light puzzles. Dual Destiny can only be completed by two players, requires them to adorn certain subclasses – one Dark, one Light – and requires a certain amount of communication. The reward at the end is quite large: an exotic class item that can yield multiple benefits, including those previously accessible through class-specific gear, meaning classes can now share their abilities with another.
It’s a pretty game-changing incentive to complete what seems at first glance to be a neat but missable mission, and players are a little irritated by the requirements to acquire such a transformative piece of gear. Fans of Destiny 2 I’ve been upset about secret exotic missions like this before, due to their difficulty or timed nature, but the anger around Dual Destiny is completely different. There is a guaranteed way to make the mission appear, meaning you can only miss it by not engaging in the process, in which case you should know what you’re getting into. Destiny 2 I just don’t want to have to do this mission with another player to get the exotic class item, and they were very vocal about it.
I completely understand my dissatisfaction solo players. I played Fate It’s been around for ten years and I’ve largely played the game solo. I never had Fate static (a reliable group of people to play with) and probably won’t for a while. There are six-player raids and three-player dungeons. always I haven’t finished, and yes, I’m sometimes upset that I didn’t get to experience some of the best content in the game due to the lack of a gun team. Even now, I’m not happy that such a crucial item is locked behind a quest that I have to find someone else to complete, but believe it or not, that’s not Bungie’s problem. It is Mine or yours.
Fate has always been a multiplayer game. Even if large parts can be done solo, this remains entirely valid for the developer of a multiplayer title to create content specifically allowing the audience to interact with it on these terms. I don’t think the game should be aimed at an audience that wants to make it something it’s not.
Not to mention, Fate, along with its community, have largely skirted the problem at the heart of this situation. There are many forums and Discords where people can meet other gamers to play with. Over the years, I have met at least a few friends through Fate like that. These days, there’s a full-fledged in-game system called Fireteam Finder that lets you create or search posts instead of matchmaking, and while it’s far from perfect, it’s largely functional. Find a single player, take the mic for about half an hour to communicate some puzzles to each other, then complete the mission and move on. In fact, it’s that simple. It’s a mission like any other, and when a challenge presents itself to you, the goal is to overcome it.
As someone who is anxious about playing games with literally anyone other than the friends I’ve been playing with for years, I understand how engaging in these systems can be a lot for some people. people. I sympathize with the person who is plagued by doubts and doubts about their exposure, but I am also not going to allow them to remain closed off. I’m also not going to join the chorus of players demanding that missions like Dual Destiny never be done, because that goes against what they believe should be allowed.
Fate has always excelled when he surpasses himself and the people who play him. Without the type of experimentation featured in Dual Destiny, we wouldn’t have much of its best content, which includes the many secret exotic missions over the years, every raid, and the game’s dungeons, which are my favorites. We would not have all the community ARGs that the Fate the community has been aware over the years. There’s simply so much we’d miss if Bungie didn’t occasionally ask its players to come together for unique experiences. My advice is to look into it the few times it happens. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
Inevitably, Bungie will introduce an alternative way to obtain Exotic class items that is not tied to Dual Destiny. This was never going to be the only method of obtaining them, it was just an interesting and new way to handle things, while also testing the functionality of Bungie’s new services and the willingness of its community. It’s been heartening to see people trying despite blockages and disabilities, like some Guardians who are either mute Or deaf. Although the Fate The community can be as toxic as any other, with many offering to transport players averse to communication, or those who simply aren’t comfortable with the more complex mechanics of dating, a reminder that these experiences community are It’s worth having in these games.
I hope Bungie takes this to heart. I’m sure there are reasonable criticisms to be made about Dual Destiny, but its existence is actually one of the best things about games like Destiny 2. This isn’t really a problem that needs to be eliminated. Rather, it’s a promise of what the game can look like when he and his team are allowed to fire on all cylinders and continue creating new experiences for this community all these years later.
