ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot platform, continues to expand with new features. It now offers a store – the GPT Store – for AI-based applications and services. The recently introduced Memories feature allows you to save your preferences so that chats are better tailored to you. And soon, ChatGPT will benefit from an improved voice mode, allowing you to interact with the platform more or less in real time.
So, you may be wondering: how much does ChatGPT cost? This is a harder question to answer than you think. OpenAI offers a range of plans for ChatGPT, both paid and free, aimed at customers ranging from individuals to non-profit organizations, small and medium-sized businesses, educational institutions and enterprises.
To keep track of the different ChatGPT subscription options available, we’ve put together a ChatGPT pricing guide. We will keep it updated as new plans are introduced.
Free ChatGPT
Once upon a time, the free version of ChatGPT was quite limited in its possibilities. But that has changed as OpenAI has rolled out new capabilities and underlying generative AI models.
Free ChatGPT users gain access to OpenAI’s flagship GPT-4o model, rich web content responses, access to the GPT Store, and the ability to upload files and photos and ask questions about them. downloads. Users can also store their chat preferences as “memories” and leverage advanced data analytics, a ChatGPT feature that can “reason” (i.e. analyze data from) files such as sheets calculations and PDFs.
There are However, downsides to the free ChatGPT plan, including daily capacity limits on the GPT-4o model, depend on demand. Once a user reaches the limits, they automatically – albeit temporarily – switch to OpenAI’s less capable GPT-3.5 model. Free ChatGPT users also miss out on some data analysis features, which we discuss in more detail below.
ChatGPT Plus
For individual users who want a more capable ChatGPT, there is ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month.
ChatGPT Plus offers 5x the capacity of free ChatGPT, as well as early and priority access to newer tools like OpenAI’s macOS client for ChatGPT.
Additionally, ChatGPT Plus subscribers benefit from enhanced data analysis functionality, backed by GPT-4o, which can create interactive graphs and tables from datasets. Users can upload files to scan directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive or from their devices.
The ChatGPT team
Let’s say you own a small business or manage an organization and want multiple ChatGPT licenses, as well as collaboration features. ChatGPT might fit the bill: it costs $30 per user per month or $25 per user per month, billed annually for up to 149 users.
ChatGPT Team provides a dedicated workspace and administrative tools for team management. All users on a ChatGPT Team plan have access to the latest OpenAI templates and the aforementioned tools that allow ChatGPT to analyze, modify, and extract information from files. Beyond that, ChatGPT Team allows team members to create and share custom apps, similar to apps in the GPT Store, based on OpenAI templates. These applications can be tailored to specific use cases or services, or tailored to a team’s data.
ChatGPT Enterprise
Large organizations (any organization needing more than 149 ChatGPT licenses, to be precise) can opt for ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI’s enterprise-focused ChatGPT plan. OpenAI does not publish pricing for ChatGPT Enterprise, but the listed cost is around $60 per user per month with a minimum of 150 users and a 12-month contract.
ChatGPT Enterprise adds “enterprise-grade” privacy and data analytics features on top of vanilla ChatGPT, along with improved performance and customization options. There is a dedicated workspace and admin console with tools to manage how an organization’s employees use ChatGPT, including integrations for single sign-on, domain verification, and a dashboard displaying usage and engagement statistics.
Shareable conversation templates provided as part of ChatGPT Enterprise allow users to create internal workflows and bots leveraging ChatGPT, while OpenAI API platform credits allow businesses to create fully custom solutions based on ChatGPT if they wish.
ChatGPT Enterprise customers also benefit from priority access to OpenAI models and lines of expertise, including a dedicated account team, training and consolidated billing. And they are eligible for commercial partnership agreements with OpenAI, which are required by U.S. law for companies that want to use tools like ChatGPT with private health information such as medical records.
ChatGPT Edu
ChatGPT Edu, a newer offering from OpenAI, offers a version of ChatGPT designed for universities and the students who attend them, as well as faculty, researchers, and campus operations teams. Pricing has not yet been made public or reported second-hand, but we will update this section if it is.
ChatGPT Edu is comparable to ChatGPT Enterprise, except that it supports SCIM, an open protocol used to simplify identity and access management in the cloud. (OpenAI plans to integrate SCIM with ChatGPT Enterprise in the future.) As with ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu customers benefit from data analysis tools, administrative controls, single sign-on, improved security and the ability to create and share personalized chatbots.
ChatGPT Edu also comes with the latest OpenAI templates and, most importantly, increased message limits.
OpenAI for Nonprofits
OpenAI for Nonprofits is OpenAI’s first foray into nonprofit technology solutions. This isn’t so much a standalone ChatGPT plan as it is a range of discounts for eligible organizations.
Nonprofits can access the ChatGPT team at a discounted rate of $20 per month per user. Large nonprofits can get 50% off ChatGPT Enterprise, which works out to about $30 per user.
The eligibility conditions are, however, quite strict. Although nonprofits based anywhere in the world can apply for discounts, OpenAI is not currently accepting applications from academic, medical, religious, or government institutions.
