WWE SHOCK AT THE CASTLE FORECASTS
WWE Championship, I left the match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles
Geno Mrosko: Probably a good match ahead, but there is no doubt about the result. I wonder if they can salvage history to make the future, or what’s left of it, even more interesting for Styles. Pick: Cody Rhodes
Sean Rueter: It’s been fun, and a better post-WrestleMania feud than the other new champions. Here too, they will probably close the whole thing with a violent spectacle. But the title does not change hands. Pick: Cody Rhodes
Kyle Decker: I would have saved this for Money in the bank. (I think this is not a Big 4 show, one male main title and one female main title should be defended because it makes it seem like it’s very important while two main titles diminish the value of the other if they’re on the same show.) Since they didn’t. This means that there is definitely no way for AJ to win. This won’t be the main event (Drew is) and Cody won’t lose his title anywhere other than in the main event. Not that he wasn’t going to lose it so soon anyway, but odds were it wouldn’t be there. Pick: Cody Rhodes
Claire Elisabeth: I might have bought a Dusty Finish or shenanigans before they dropped the stipulation, but fake takedown or not, once this became an “I Quit” match, it became a definite win in the American Nightmare ledger. Pick: Cody Rhodes
Cain A. Knight: The best babyface in WWE won’t say those two words. Pick: Cody Rhodes
Marc Benjamin: Cody wins. No way he’s going to lose. So for me the fun is in how they get there. I can’t imagine AJ saying those two words, so how Cody gets him there will say a lot about Cody’s character and his reign, Pick: Cody Rhodes
World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
Geno Mrosko: I don’t see a single good reason not to award the title to McIntyre here, giving him a signature victory and a big moment. Sure, it means a painfully brief reign for Priest, but he’s not exactly setting the world on fire and CM Punk will be back sooner rather than later. A SummerSlam showdown with the Scot for the world title is selling out. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Sean Rueter: The lack of judgment at ringside is a big problem, but that doesn’t stop interference from anyone – and Smart Money (and at least one fan at Glasgow Airport) says CM Punk will be there. But even if fucking his enemy again would fit their story, I bet he either won’t do it or his attempt will backfire. Scotland can celebrate with their man. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Kyle Decker: Look, I like Priest, but he really feels like a transition champion. He never felt like a guy built for a long title run. McIntyre does. He feels like a guy you can put the main strap on and run for as long as you want. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Claire Elisabeth: Drew McIntyre winning the title in Scotland and closing out the tour he didn’t reach the last time he fought for a title in the UK is absolutely the right decision in every way. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Cain A. Knight: Drew McIntyre has to win this match, even if it means overcoming interference from CM Punk. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Marc Benjamin: Drew needs this title and the moment more than Damian Priest right now. Judgment Day is pretty dramatic, and losing the title will cause even more drama. Drew gets his moment and sets up a big summer feud with Punk. Choice: Drew McIntyre
Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Piper Niven
Geno Mrosko: They give McIntyre his big moment later that night. I don’t think Niven understands his. Pick: Bayley
Sean Rueter: I wouldn’t be shocked by a change here and would love one Summer Slam hoss fight between Niven and Queen Nia. But WWE needs its established names to be highlighted before the biggest party of the summer, and that means the only Horsewoman currently healthy and on the roster remains. Pick: Bayley
Kyle Decker: It’s good that she won a title match in her home country, but yeah. Pick: Bayley
Claire Elisabeth: On the other hand… I’m glad to see Piper have a cup of coffee in the proverbial big moment, at least. Choice: Piper Niven
Cain A. Knight: I haven’t checked, but I would bet that Piper Niven has no wins on WWE PPVs/PLEs. Pick: Bayley
Marc Benjamin: To Piper, this feels like a place where “the job is done well” in her homeland. Pick: Bayley
Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable
Geno Mrosko: It’s time for Otis to finally get fed up and take matters into his own hands. That means a DQ finish, which will mean a win for Gable but no title change. It seems difficult, but the way they play is probably going to become too important. Pick: Chad Gable
Sean Rueter: Otis finally breaks down, but the director of Alpha Academy has a “Plan B”. Why else was he chatting with The Creeds backstage on Raw? Pick: Chad Gable
Kyle Decker: I thought they would be further into the story by Chad’s next title match. I thought Otis would be gone by now and would win when he revealed the Creeds as his new muscle. But we haven’t yet reached the Otis leaving Chad – and it will happen to the Master’s detriment. Which I think means he loses here unless they rush two chapters of this story after moving through it slowly for over a month. Choice: Sami Zayn
Claire Elisabeth: Honestly, I just want to see Chad run through Alpha Academy and I want to get this over with. Choice: Sami Zayn
Cain A. Knight: I think Otis finally has enough of Gable’s crap and helps Sami win. Choice: Sami Zayn
Marc Benjamin: They have to pull the trigger on Otis here, right? He finally makes the ultimate choice and then the fun begins. Choice: Sami Zayn
Women’s Team Championship: Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair (c) vs. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark vs. The Unholy Union
Geno Mrosko: They’re not doing a very good job of creating credible challengers for these titles, are they? Choice: Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair
Sean Rueter: The only match with Scots in which I have no doubt about the outcome. Choice: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill
Kyle Decker: It’s cool that the Unholy Union has a match in their hometown. It’s less cool that they took a clean L on Raw before making them look like they have no chance of winning the match. Especially since they don’t win here. Choice: Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair
Claire Elisabeth: I mean, there’s a world where I could see the champions slipping on a banana peel to move on to a breakup feud or something, but I don’t think this is it. Choice: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill
Cain A. Knight: LOL. Choice: Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair
Marc Benjamin: The beast continues to feed. Choice: Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair
This is how we see things playing out.
You?
