Amazon Prime Day 2024: The best deals to shop before the Prime Day sale and everything we know so far

Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be here soon, which means Prime members will have a ton of sales and deals to browse during a brief period next month. Prime Day deals generally don’t discriminate: Everything from clothing to shoes to household essentials can be discounted, including consumer electronics. Prime members will have access to all deals, but there are usually a few sales available to all Amazon shoppers during Prime Day. Engadget will be showcasing all the best tech deals we can find – on Amazon and elsewhere – during Prime Day, but there are some important things to consider in advance so you can prepare for when the event begins. Here’s everything we know so far about Amazon Prime Day 2024, plus some great Amazon deals you can shop right now.

When is Amazon Prime Day?

We don’t yet have official dates for Prime Day 2024, but we do know that it will return sometime in July. The sales event focuses on exclusive deals for Prime members, which means you’ll need to be a Prime subscriber on Prime Day to take advantage of the most savings. Amazon still offers a 30-day free trial to new Prime subscribers, so you can start your free trial closer to July and participate in the event.

If you don’t pay for Prime and don’t plan to, you should still check Amazon on Prime Day to see what sales are available to all shoppers – there are always a few. Additionally, it’s very likely that other retailers like Target and Best Buy will also have their own competing Prime Day sales during this period.

Speaking of competitors, Walmart just announced that its version of Prime Day, called Walmart+ Week, will take place June 17-23. Walmart+ Week has exclusive deals for Walmart+ members, and the retail giant seems to be putting a lot of emphasis on gasoline. and travel discounts this year. It currently offers 20 cents off every gallon of gas purchased at Exxon and Mobil stations, as well as 20% Walmart Cash Back on travel accommodations purchased through Walmart+ Travel. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see discounts on other items, including electronics, during Walmart’s members-only shopping event.

Amazon Prime Day deals

Amazon Prime Day typically lasts two days, but in recent years the company has started offering deals well before the event begins. We expect the same thing to happen this year, with Prime Day deals potentially kicking off as soon as Amazon officially announces the dates for Prime Day 2024.

Whether it’s early Prime Day deals or sales day, Amazon gadgets are almost guaranteed to be on sale for the event. You can safely bet on things like Echo speakers, Kindle e-readers, and Fire TV devices at record prices for Prime Day, so if you’ve got your eye on one of these items, this worth waiting for these offers. drop. Prime Day is only rivaled by Black Friday in terms of discounts, so while that means you’ll probably have another chance to get this smart speaker at a super low price, it probably won’t be until after Holiday shopping season.

Amazon gadgets won’t be the only discounted items during Prime Day. You’ll find clothing, shoes, housewares, appliances, accessories and more on sale, but here at Engadget we’ll naturally focus on electronics. We expect this year’s Prime Day to be like last year’s, in the sense that it will bring big discounts on headphones, earphones, gaming accessories, SSDs and microSD cards, robot vacuum cleaners and much more.

It’s also worth mentioning the types of deals you can expect to see during Prime Day. Some deals will be active for the duration of the event (which typically lasts two full days), while others will only last 24 hours. These are the hardest to predict, because Amazon generally doesn’t give any indication of how long a given sale will last. Our recommendation is to purchase the items you are most interested in as soon as you see their price drop – this will ensure you get it while the discount is available and while the item is still in stock.

You can also expect to see “Lightning Deals” happening during Prime Day. Luckily, these are usually clearly marked with the time remaining to close the deal listed on the product page. In our experience, only a handful of these flash sales are actually worth your money, but if you see the price of an item that’s been on your wishlist drop for only a few hours, it’s in your best interest to snap it up immediately .

How to prepare for Prime Day

It’s best to show up to Amazon Prime Day as prepared as possible; it means knowing exactly what you want to stay focused and avoid distractions. Amazon’s entire site will be overwhelmed on Prime Day, so the less time you spend aimlessly browsing, the more your wallet will thank you later.

One thing you can do to stay on track during Prime Day is to make a list of your main items before the event. This requires a little prep work, but you’ll be grateful you did it once the event arrives. Write down the most important items you want to pick up on Prime Day. You can either do it the old fashioned way on a sticky note or use Amazon’s wishlist feature. For the latter, add the items you want to buy on Prime Day to your wishlist (or, better yet, create a dedicated wishlist with just your Prime Day wants) and return to that list during the shopping event. Not only will you have everything you want in one place, but you’ll also be able to see which of these items are cheaper on Prime Day than they were when you originally added them to your list.

It’s also recommended to use a price tracker to make sure you’re getting a good deal. Sites like CamelCamelCamel allow you to monitor the price of specific items on Amazon. You can view price history charts and create your own price drop alerts, receiving emails when something you want is discounted. CamelCamelCamel also offers browser extensions that you can download so you don’t have to leave an Amazon product page to check its price history.
