Cyndaquilthe Fire Mouse Pokémon rushes to Classic June Community Day – a recurring phenomenon Pokémon Go event that celebrates a specific Pokémon, bringing it back for another chance at Community Day glory! As with all Community Day events, it brings a host of bonuses, including improved shiny rates and an exclusive attack for its latest morph, Typhlosion!
Since Cyndaquil is a starter Pokémon, and therefore a relatively rare appearance in Pokémon Go, outside of occasional special events, this is a great opportunity to catch one and add all of its evolutions to your Pokédex – especially if you missed its first Community Day. event in 2018 and I want a Typhlosion with the exclusive move Burn.
Typhlosion is still reasonable in Pokémon Go, but it’s far from the best single-type Fire Pokémon in Go Battle League. Instead, this Classic Community Day is your chance to find a perfect Shiny Typhlosion, if you’re still missing one!
Even if you don’t like Cyndaquil, you should still try to catch as many Pokémon as possible during this week’s Community Day Classic event because of the double capture XP and double capture Stardust bonuses that come with the event.

Cyndaquil Stats IV 100% perfect in Pokémon Go
This month’s Classic Community Day is a great opportunity to catch a Cyndaquil with perfect IV stats.
“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there is the maxed version, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you are looking for for your 4* Pokédex, your raids and your Master League. Yet because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Cyndaquil based on CP alone.
If you are level 30 (or higher), you will ideally be looking for the following CP for a perfect Cyndaquil 15/15/15:
The Wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and given that the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you are currently below level 30.
If you want a perfect Cyndaquil for Go Battle League, you are looking for the following stats:
What is Cyndaquil evolving towards?
Cyndaquil is pretty cool, in that it evolves into the Pokémon Quilava Volcano and then Typhlosion. Both follow the theme of “What if I was bigger and had more fire coming out of my back”? Is this the most sensible line of evolution? No. Is this cool as hell? Totally.
Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava with 25 Cyndaquil Candy. Quilava evolves into Typhlosion with 100 additional Cyndaquil Candy.
However, this starter Pokémon is also notable because it has a branching evolution – Hisuian Typhlosion. This regional variation originates from the Hisui region (as you probably guessed). This is only available as a Raid reward, so don’t go into this Community Day expecting to grab the variant!
If you want to know more about the Cyndaquil family, you can read their official Pokédex entries below:
- Cyndaquil – ‘It generally remains bent. If he is angry or surprised, he shoots flames behind his back. The fire that springs from his back burns brightest when he is angry. The blazing flames intimidate enemies.
- Quilava – “Before the fight, he turns his back on his opponent to demonstrate the ferocity of his fire. The fur covering this Pokémon’s body never burns, no matter what. It can resist any type of fire attack.
- Typhlosion – ‘He has a secret and devastating movement. He rubs his flaming fur to cause huge explosions. If his rage reaches its peak, he becomes so hot that anything that touches him instantly bursts into flames.
- Hisuian typhlosion – ‘Said to purify lost and abandoned souls with its flames and guide them to the afterlife. I believe its shape was influenced by the energy of the sacred mountain dominating the center of Hisui.’
June’s Community Day Classic event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (local time), so you’ll have three hours to gather as many Cyndaquil Candies as possible to ensure you can fully evolve it!
Remember that having a Fire-type Mega Evolved Pokémon will net you an extra Cyndaquil Candy per capture, so if you think you’re going to run out of candy, bring a Mega Charizard, Mega Blaziken, or Primal Groudon, for example!
Typhlosion Moves and Best Move Recommendations
Typhlosion’s best moveset is Incinerate, Blast Burn and Thunder Punch. His full moveset is as follows:
Fast movements
- Incinerate (Fire)
- Shadow Claw (Ghost)
- Ember (Fire)
Loaded movements
- Thunderclap (electric)
- Solar beam (grass)
- Overheating (fire)
- Fire Explosion (Fire)
Legacy Charged Moves
- Explosive Burn (Fire)
- Return (normal)
It’s good to see that his best move is the Legacy move awarded during this Community Day Classic event. Just know that while Typhlosion and Shadow Typhlosion are decent Fire-type Pokémon, they still lag behind Talonflame, Skeledirge, and Charizard. If you need a powerful Fire-type attacker to Grand League and Ultra League and you don’t have these Pokémon, it might be worth going out of your way to search for a perfect Cyndaquil.
Just be aware that while it’s a spammy Pokémon that imposes both fast movement and shield pressure (all things we love), it does have some drawbacks. Notably, it’s less bulky than ideal, and it’s clunky in that it uses long attack animations. Still, as long as you can throw shields and hit with the right attack at the right time, Typhlosion could serve you well.
If you want to try Cyndaquil in these leagues, you are looking for the following stats for the respective Pokémon:
- 13/0/15 for Typhlosion in the Grand League
- 15/0/13 for Typhlosion in Ultra League
- 15/15/15 for Typhlosion in Master League
The season of shared skies has arrived! Currently, the Scorching Steps event is happening in Pokémon Go. Don’t forget to try out the routes, gift exchange, and group play as you hunt down rare Pokémon, battle in the Go Battle League, or participate in the PokéStop windows.
What do the brilliant Cyndaquil, Quilava and Typhlosion look like?
Shiny Cyndaquil in Pokémon Go was released on its first Community Day in November 2018.
During Community Day events, the shiny rate is increased, so catching a shiny Cyndaquil in the wild should be relatively simple.
Every Cyndaquil you see has the potential to be brilliant, so it’s purely a numbers game – tap each one and see what you get. Good luck finding the Cyndaquil you need!
If you want to evolve your Cyndaquil into Quilava, you will need 25 Cyndaquil Candies and you will need an additional 100 Cyndaquil Candies to evolve your Quilava into Typhlosion.
As you can see below, the Cyndaquil gloss is pretty dull. He trades his teal back and head for a rusty brown. This change is retained throughout evolution, meaning the regular version looks better than the shiny version. It’s always a disappointing thing to see.

Other Cyndaquil Classic Community Day Bonuses
Community days in Pokémon Go always come with a series of bonuses, and Cyndaquil Community Day is no different.
Some of these bonuses are still the same, such as increased spawn counts and shine rates. There is, however, a rotating set of other bonuses for Community Days, such as double or triple candies, Stardust or XP. That said, Community Day Classics offer fewer bonuses than regular Community Day events.
Here’s a full list of Cyndaquil Community Day bonuses below:
- Increased appearances
- Increased gloss rate
- Double Capture XP
- Double Stardust XP
- Incense duration of 3 hours (not including Daily Adventure incense)
- Lure duration of 3 hours (not including golden lures)
- Photobombs – Take a photo of your friend to win a surprise encounter with Cyndaquil and increase your Cameraman Medal up to five times during the event.
- Field research – Spin PokéStops to obtain event-exclusive tasks, similar to previous Community Day events. It will probably be “Catch 3 Cyndaquil” for some Great Balls or Ultra Balls, Stardust or a Cyndaquil encounter.
- Special research – For $1.00, or the equivalent price level in your local currency, you can participate in Cyndaquil’s Special Research story.
- Stickers – Get event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening gifts, and in the in-game store.
- Exclusive move – Evolve Cyndaquil during the event to obtain a Typhlosion that knows the exclusive attack Blast Burn (a Fire-type charged move).
- PokéStop Showcases for Cyndaquil
Good luck finding a perfect Cyndaquil!
