Welcome to Canon Fodder, your monthly treat for all things fiction!
We have new knowledge about Digsite, questions and answers, a new Infinitum Armory entry, a complete round-up of community-created story content, and much more – let’s get straight to the point…
SHIELD SHIPS
Last week we published a new Digsite blog (check out Digsite Deep-Dive!) that showed what happened with the modding group’s second release. As has become something of a tradition, some aspects of this old cutting room content return in the Halo the central canon of the universe.
Technicallythis was seen in a core canon source (namely, as a single-panel Easter egg in the series’ “Boot Camp” Range drop comic), but we wanted to give it a more formal start…
The UNSC “shield generator ship” was originally designed to Halo 2, presenting a profile similar to that of the Albatross troop carrier but on a larger scale. Here’s a look at some never-before-seen concept sketches from Halo 2.
SERVICE ENTERED: 2552
MAKER: Watershed division (redevelopment)
CREW: ten
LENGTH: 322.5 feet (98.3 m)
Antaeus was a modified heavy freighter with salvaged Covenant shield generators. It served as an R&D platform for reverse-engineering large-scale shield generators and methods for integrating alien technology with human energy systems and ship architecture. The most significant changes to the ship were the installation of an upgraded fusion power plant and the incorporation of four shield generators salvaged from the Covenant’s deployment booms.
The ship was ready for commissioning in late 2551, but remained docked at Concord Shipyards located in Sol’s Oort Cloud until the end of the war, although it was placed on operational standby during the siege. of Earth by the Covenant. Various simulations tested the ship’s usefulness in ground combat operations, but the UNSC prioritized completion of the UNSC. Infinity on putting more of these ships into active service.
DISCORD SPEECH
Every month on the official Halo Discord, there is a “Question of the Month” channel that we invite the community to answer. This month the question is:
Someone who has little or no experience with Halo comes up to you and asks: “So, what Halo about, exactly?
How do you describe the story and plot? Do you go for the overly simple “Master Chief saves the day” or do you go a little deeper into things? What do you think is the most important thing for someone to know about Halo history?
Naturally, people have a lot of different thoughts on topics like this, gravitating towards different aspects of the games and the universe, which essentially guarantees a variety of different answers.
FLASH POINT
Designed for two or more players, Halo: Flashpoint brings the wargaming arena to tabletop miniatures, along with a range of classic game modes, troop types and weapons. Experience an exciting game that’s easy to learn, hard to master, and rewards thinking under fire.
The other week, Mantic Games streamed a painting challenge between themselves and Army Painter to showcase the game and its miniatures. Watch the video below!
Choose to fight as Spartans or Banished and prepare for the ultimate tabletop tactical experience.
COMMUNITY QUESTIONS
We heard that you like Q&As, and while doing them en masse is rarer, we thought Canon Fodder would be a good place to answer the occasional questions that arise in the Halo community that relates to history and the universe – just as some of the issues of old did.
Sometimes these questions can be considered more “basic”, simply indicating where you might find certain answers or elements of an answer. HaloThe story of, other times they may concern a deeper tradition and be taken from previous Q&As, but we hope this will be a useful addition to our monthly feature.
OkYam7295: Which books focus on elite characters?
The Sangheili are among the most compelling lenses through which to view the Halo universe, and many stories are told through their eyes. Here are some recommendations:
Set during the early years of the Alliance and the Great Schism that would shatter the alien empire thousands of years later, a Sangheili rebel group seeks to escape the rule of the Seers in a Forerunner shield world.
The galaxy falls into peril under Halo’s looming shadow, forcing an uneasy alliance of humans and Sangheili, including Olympia Vale, Usze ‘Taham, and N’tho ‘Sraom, to return to the Ark.
The Covenant War is over and Rtas’ Vadum is weary of conflict, but the vengeful designs of a San’Shyuum prelate call the ship’s captain into action once more as Sanghelios is threatened.
THE PARIAHS
Author: Troy Denning
Release: 2022
Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam and Spartan Olympia Vale attempt to retrieve a suspected weapon from the hostile world of Netherop that could turn the tide against Cortana’s tyrannical rule.
Gamestrider09: How the Flood got aboard the UNSC In Amber Dressed?
Upon arrival at Delta Halo around the middle of Halo 2the Master Chief was deployed to eliminate the Prophet of Regret while Commander Miranda Keyes headed to the installation’s library to secure the Index, the device that would allow the Covenant to activate the ring.
However, the Delta Halo Library was also located where a quarantine zone had been established to contain a major flood outbreak. Indeed, the UNSC In Amber Dressed can be seen in the skybox during the Quarantine Zone mission in relative proximity to the gondolas that lead to the library.
After obtaining the Index, Keyes is incapacitated by Tartarus and brought to High Charity, along with Sergeant Avery Johnson. From here we can turn to what the 2022 edition of the Halo Encyclopedia tells us to fill in the rest.
“What remained of the ship’s crew valiantly defended it against the emerging threat of the Flood, but they ultimately failed. During this bitter engagement, the Dressed was captured by the Parasite and ultimately used to infiltrate High Charity, ultimately proving to be a large but costly factor in the Covenant’s demise.

INFINITUM ARMORY
THE I will elect-The Long Shot Rifle – more commonly known as the Stalker Rifle – was a new weapon added to the sandbox of Halo Infinite. You have undoubtedly become very proficient in its use over the past few years, with aiming skills on par with a Kig-Yar on Legendary difficulty.
When you encounter the high-value target known as Barroth, a Kig-Yar sniper, you can acquire the Stalker Rifle Ultra special weapon variant.
From its vantage point atop a stack of alloy pillars, Ark Khordat Barroth had a full view of the surrounding terrain.
Barroth was stationed near Riven Gate, an outpost that had been built to serve as a key control point for this local area of Oth Koronn, effectively blocking the remaining human troops that had scattered after the fall of their frigate which had been destroyed. become the Tremonius Outpost.
Next to Riven Gate was a large fissure, a trench that appeared to be a connection point for a series of struts that served as a “spine” for the ring’s reforming landmasses. And beyond, on the other side of the trench, was a small island where one of the UNSC’s forward operating bases – designated “FOB November” – was now occupied by the banished forces. It was surrounded by a small lake that led to a Forerunner beacon tower that continued to emit pulses of energy at regular intervals.
But as Barroth looked through the scope of his tracker rifle, enhancing the magnification with his attached ocular helmet, he noticed something new…
The dirt “road” kicked up sand and mud in the wake of a human vehicle, inside which he spotted a complement of five human soldiers and, in the driver’s seat, the unmistakable sight of a Spartan.
Although Barroth boasts an impressive marksmanship record, his skill and proficiency having earned him an initiation into the ranks of the Bloodstars, his sights were firmly set on a coveted position within the Hand of Atriox, in direct service to the warlord Escharum himself. To do this, he had to kill a Spartan.
“Prepare an ambush!” he shouted through his native comms. “New prey, the largest human prey in all surroundings!” »
The Spartan would undoubtedly take over the UNSC base and Barroth would not interfere. It was an opportunity to observe the human warrior in action and, with any luck, to see the toy soldiers who accompanied him felled in the firefight that was about to ensue. After that, there was no doubt it would come back that way. He could alert Riven Gate… but why risk losing the glory of this killing?
Barroth once again caught sight of his modified tracker rifle and waited for his moment to come.
