Ice cream cakes, sandwiches and pints recalled because they may contain listeria

WASHINGTON — A company that makes ice cream products for several popular brands, including Hershey’s, Jeni’s, Friendly’s and Chipwich, announced the recall of all of its products due to possible listeria contamination.

Totally Cool, Inc. of Owings Mills, Md., stopped production of the recalled products after FDA samples found the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, according to the announcement on the Food & Drug website United States Administration.

Although Listeria infection only causes short-term symptoms in healthy people, it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Listeria can also cause serious and even fatal infections in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

The recalled ice cream was sold nationwide and includes more than 60 different products sold under various brand names. It includes ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cones and pints.
