Mark Wahlberg ‘living every man’s fantasy’ but admits on-screen romance is ‘a little weird’

Mark Wahlberg is living his dream in many ways.

The “Boogie Nights” star appears alongside Halle Berry in a new Netflix movie next month called “The Union,” in which his character, a factory worker, gets a second chance with his high school sweetheart who happens to be a super spy.

“…Halle, she and I have known each other for a very long time, and this movie is going to be great because it’s every man’s fantasy, to think they have a chance with Halle Berry,” he told Fox News Digital.

Speaking about the characters, he continued: “They were childhood sweethearts, and they get back together. He’s waited 25 years for her to come back, to walk through that door again and come into his life, and she does, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to prove himself to her if he had a second chance. To me, that was the whole motivation of the character: to do whatever he could to not screw it up again.”

Mark Wahlberg told Fox News Digital that starring opposite Halle Berry in their new film, “The Union,” is “every man’s fantasy, to think they had a chance with Halle Berry.”

Wahlberg, who has been married to wife Rhea Durham for 15 years, admitted that playing a romantic role opposite someone is always “a little weird,” but the couple are confident in their relationship.

“I find it a bit strange to represent a love story on screen, it’s not normal, but my wife knows she is everything to me,” he said. “She’s the most special woman in the world.”

Last week, Wahlberg shared photos of himself accompanying Ella on a shopping trip near Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, where she attends college.

He and Ella also posed together with big smiles on their faces in a photo Wahlberg shared on Instagram, writing, “So proud of this young lady.”

“Dad only has a few goals in life, to do what he wants when he wants me to do it. And I don’t mind doing it, we had an incredible time in Charleston,” he told Fox News Digital.

The 53-year-old added: “It’s only for her, her sister, her mother that I would go to a store like that.”

More in tune with his own tastes, Wahlberg continues to develop his own brand, Municipal, which has just opened its Pro Shop on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, California.

“Everything we do is ambitious. No matter where you come from, where you start, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you’re willing to work. That’s how I live my life every day. Everyone who’s part of Municipal… for us, it’s all about dreaming, planning and striving, making things happen,” he said of the brand.

Municipal was co-founded in 2019 by Wahlberg and Harry Arnett.

Arnett told Fox News Digital: “I mean, it’s been 15 years in the making. The very first time Mark and I met, we started talking about how we needed to create a brand that was going to be a game changer in terms of fashion, in terms of cool style, but also in terms of clothes that you wear everywhere.”

He went on to joke that he and the famous fitness enthusiast “have very similar lifestyles,” adding: “But in a weird way, Mark is constantly doing multiple things at once, in the gym, outside the gym, everywhere you go, things that run smoothly and work better than anything else, and that was kind of our dream for Municipal. And here we are 15 years later, standing in the Municipal store, it’s pretty surreal.”

Wahlberg explained that the brand’s goal is simple: “To create the most incredible athleisure brand on the planet for everyone. … We want to create something very, very special. If you spend a little bit more money, you’re going to spend it on quality. And everything we do is quality, number one, number two, and number three.”

He is also committed to giving back to the community through the brand, revealing that they have plans for golf courses and basketball courts, among other projects.

“When we build our first municipal golf course, do you know who’s going to get a free membership or access to the clubhouse and the fitness area? All the people who work for the city and the state and the municipalities, the people who serve their community, it’s always about giving back. They’re the real heroes,” he said.

The devout Catholic marked the store’s opening with a blessing from a priest, who told the crowd: “Mark has been a great friend for many years. I’m very grateful to him, thank you very much.”

Wahlberg told Fox News Digital at the inauguration in June that he credits his success to “my faith, my family and just finding a good balance. But I have to attribute all of my success to my faith.”

The star, born and raised in Boston, shares her Catholic faith with her future co-star Mel Gibson.

Wahlberg and Mel Gibson star together in the upcoming thriller “Flight Risk,” with Wahlberg playing the villain.

The duo stars in the new film “Flight Risk,” with Wahlberg playing a wilderness pilot who becomes a crazed hitman.

Wahlberg said he had no plans to take the controls in the air, but was excited about the challenge of the role.

“I’m not interested in becoming a pilot. I don’t like flying at all, but I really wanted to play a bad guy again,” he said. “I haven’t done that since ‘Fear’ 30 years ago.”

In “Fear,” Wahlberg plays the obsessive and abusive boyfriend of a young Reese Witherspoon, who terrorizes her and her family once she rejects him.

“To be able to go back and play someone who is (a villain)… it’s an incredible character. I think people are going to be shocked when they see the movie. It’s going to be a good movie this summer.”
