Holly Marie Combs remembers her “Charmed” co-star Shannen Doherty.
On Monday, Combs shared a moving tribute to Doherty on Instagram, who died at age 53 on Saturday, July 13, after a years-long battle with cancer, a rep said.
“My other half for 31 years,” Combs wrote in the caption of his Instagram post, which included a series of photos of the two of them taken over the years. “I have a pit in my chest and I can’t catch my breath. I miss a part of me, even though I know exactly what you would tell me right now. I know exactly what you would tell me to do right now.”
“I know that your eternal spirit will live on in me and in my children whom you loved as your own,” she continued. “They will walk with your sense of duty and pride. They will be honest and stand up for what is right.”
“Your fire will live on in them and the many other Charmeds you helped raise. A fierce fighter to the end,” Combs said. “My fiercest champion. My loyal protector. My best friend. You taught me the meaning of family. You were and will always be my sister. I love you.”
Doherty played Prue Halliwell on Charmed, and Combs played Piper Halliwell, Prue’s sister. The series followed a group of witches who used their powers to fight evil.
Rose McGowan, who replaced Doherty as the third star of “Charmed,” said Doherty had “the heart of a lion.”
“Passion for craft is often misunderstood as a problem. Shannen was a passion. I met her in the 90s and was blown away. To really get to know her later in life, such a gift. This woman fought for her life,” McGowan said in an Instagram caption alongside photos of Doherty as a child and adult.
“Shannen knew how to be a star because she was one since she was a child. Her work ethic was an inspiration until the end,” McGowan added.
McGowan honored Doherty as a “force of energy” who would live forever.
“Rest now, warrior,” she said.
Doherty’s “Charmed” co-star Brian Krause, who played Leo Wyatt on the show, also shared a message about Doherty and said he was “truly heartbroken” by his death.
“You showed me what strength is,” Krause said. “You taught me to be fearless and to live with purpose. To know your worth and to stay true to your determinations. I will love you forever!”
The Hollywood community, of which Doherty has been a part since her childhood, when she played Jenny Wilder on “Little House on the Prairie,” also reacted with sadness and shock. Her “Beverly Hills, 90210” co-stars paid moving tributes to Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh on the show.
“Our relationship was real and honest,” Jennie Garth wrote, in part, on social media, alongside photos of herself and Doherty. “We were so often pitted against each other, but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship, built on mutual respect and admiration.”
The actress, who played Kelly Taylor in the series, continued: “She was courageous, passionate, determined, very loving and generous. I will miss her and always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family, for Bowie and for all those who loved her.”
Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin on “90210,” shared a photo of herself with Doherty on her Instagram Stories, along with several broken heart emojis.
“I don’t have explicit words yet, but WE knew it and that’s what matters,” she wrote on the photo.
Jason Priestly, who plays Brandon Walsh, Doherty’s twin brother, expressed his condolences.
“I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family during this dark time,” Priestly said on Instagram.
Carol Potter, who played the Walsh family matriarch, said she too was shocked and saddened.
“What a journey she has come! She left us too soon. Throughout this journey, she remained true to herself and gave us an example of courage and perseverance in the face of her own death. May she rest in peace,” she said on Instagram.
James Eckhouse, who played Walsh family patriarch Jim, said his death was a “loss”.
“She was fierce in her work, fierce in her love, fierce in her long and courageous battle with cancer. Shannen, you will be terribly missed,” he wrote on Instagram.
Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman in the teen drama, also shared her condolences. She remembered actor Luke Perry, who played Dylan McKay, who died in March 2019 from a massive stroke. He was 52.
“So young, so sad. May you rest in peace Shannon (sic). I know Luke is there with open arms loving you,” she wrote on Instagram.
Brian Austin Green, who played David on the show, mourned Doherty as his sister.
“Shan. My sister. You have loved me through thick and thin. You have played a huge role in my understanding of love. I will miss you more than I can understand right now. Thank you for the gift you have given,” Green wrote on his Instagram account.

Actress Olivia Munn, who has spoken openly about her battle with cancer, said the late actress faced her diagnosis “with such dignity, strength and grace.”
Director Kevin Smith credited Doherty with changing the dynamics of ’90s culture.
“Long before another pop culture figure ‘broke the internet,’ @theshando single-handedly broke it in the early 90s. That’s an incredible accomplishment considering the internet as we know it didn’t even exist yet,” he wrote, alongside a carousel of photos of himself and the actress.
Doherty, who starred in Smith’s 1995 “Mallrats,” “was a real talent, and she became a good friend,” Smith said.
Smith, who said Doherty was “not a shy violet,” added that he was grateful for their 30 years of friendship.
“She died way too soon. I miss you already, Do-Do. Thank you for coming to the mall with me and for thirty years of friendship. My Canadian friend was right: you are (and always will be) an American icon,” he said.
Dave Coulier remembers Doherty as “a beautiful smile.” Today, I will also think of the women in my life who have all succumbed to cancer: my mother, my sister Sharon and my niece Shannon, who were all so strong and beautiful.
Sarah Michelle Gellar also took to Instagram to pay tribute to her friend and asked her followers to “honor” her by donating to animal charities, as Doherty loved animals.
“How do I find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship? I keep telling myself it hurts so much because there was so much love,” Gellar captioned her post. “Thank you for all your kind words and support. I love all the messages about how much @theshando meant to you. So let’s celebrate him.”
“I know it would make our daughter happy (and elicit that deep throaty laugh we all loved) 💔 💔💔,” she added.
