I know this sort of thing isn’t our usual domain, but Prime Day 2024 has brought some great discounts on a whole range of tech, and that goes for everything from coffee machines and laptops to air fryers and headphones.
To that end, here are five of the best non-gaming tech deals I spotted in the UK while swimming through UK Prime Day deals and spreadsheets – hope you find something!
Ninja Double Stack XL Air Fryer – £210 (was £270)
Okay, that might sound a bit strange as a starting point, but let me explain. This Ninja Double Stack XL air fryer is the latest and greatest option from the big brand, and has been pretty resistant to discounts until now, where it’s received a hefty £60 price cut.
I’m a long-time user of Ninja air fryers, and they’ve impressed me in the past with their wide range of useful features, excellent cooking performance, and sleek appearance. The Double Stack XL has these in spades, especially in this Amazon-exclusive black and copper colorway that’s on sale. It has a total capacity of 9.5 liters across two equal-sized baskets and, with its included racks inside, can cook up to four different types of food at once. It also has useful functions, such as the classic Air Fry, as well as roasting, baking, dehydrating, and Ninja’s Max Crisp mode, which, with its maximum temperature of 240 degrees C, is useful for getting super-crispy fries or breaded foods.
The best part about this fryer is that it’s Ninja’s first stacked air fryer, meaning the baskets are stacked on top of each other, rather than side by side. This saves counter space, which is a boon if your kitchen is on the smaller side like mine. It achieves this while being slightly taller than the brand’s AF400UK – their classic large dual-zone option – so it’ll still fit under your kitchen cabinets.
Sony WH-1000XM4 – £180 (was £350)
For a capable wireless noise-canceling headset at nearly half the price, look no further than this deal on the Sony WH-1000XM4. These headphones have been a top-of-the-line model with ANC for several years now, and getting them at this low price is a real steal.
The XM4s offer class-leading noise cancellation that essentially envelopes you in silence, so you can focus on what you’re listening to without being distracted by outside noises, whether it’s people talking, the sound of a train, or more. You can choose from multiple levels in Sony’s companion app, as well as a Transparency mode that you can quickly activate to continue conversations or be more aware of your surroundings. There’s even an optional Speak to Chat feature that automatically pauses playback and activates Transparency mode when you start speaking.
As for audio, the XM4s deliver a nice low-end punch with a robust bass response, while also providing a smooth midrange and detailed highs. Add to that the convenience of a 30-hour battery life, a foldable chassis (which is notably absent from the new XM5 model), plush padding that makes the XM4s extremely comfortable, and a handy travel case, and you’ve got yourself a great set of wireless earbuds for traveling and all sorts of other things.
Sage Nespresso Creatista Plus – £265 (was £480)
The Sage Nespress Creatista Plus is a very nice pod coffee machine that also offers the pleasure of a built-in milk frother. There aren’t many machines that accept pods and also offer this option, which makes the Creatista Plus a great choice.
On top of that, it also has a handy display on the top to guide you through the coffee making process and turn your favourite Nespresso espresso into a flat white, latte or whatever you prefer. Its brushed stainless steel finish also looks stunning and, like other Sage machines, it should be pretty well built.
Apple M2 13.3-inch MacBook Air – £849 (was £999)
If you’re looking for a MacBook with a big price cut this Prime Day, then the M2-powered 13.3-inch MacBook Air is down to £849 at Amazon. That’s £150 off its usual list price of £999, and lets you get a great laptop for creatives for a little less.
This MacBook Air is powered by an M2 chip, which is quite powerful with eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, and is a powerful option for video editing that outperforms even the fastest Intel-based Mac desktops and laptops. It may only be a modest upgrade over the M1 chip, but it’s still faster, and you’ll get the most out of it if you’re upgrading from an Intel-based MacBook.
This MacBook Air M2 also sports a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display that should deliver accurate colors and a particularly vibrant experience, while the base 256GB SSD inside gives you a reasonable amount of space to store apps. The 8GB of RAM inside might not be enough for other laptops, but the efficiency of the M2 chip and macOS in general means it’s still viable. As for battery life, Apple claims this MacBook Air should last up to 18 hours on a single charge, giving you plenty of endurance for a few days of work away from the charger.
Apple AirPods Pro 2 – £179 (was £229)
And finally, the Apple AirPods Pro 2, a great pair of noise-cancelling earbuds with a sleek look, comfortable fit and great ANC, have been knocked £50 off their price for Prime Day. They were £229, but are now £179.
The big draw of the second-gen model is its improved ANC, with Apple claiming it offers twice as much active noise cancellation this time around as the previous model. The cancellation is excellent, and makes the AirPods Pro 2 a fantastic pair of earbuds for use on the go.
Additionally, this second-generation model also features a warmer sound profile with extended bass, great accuracy, and solid imaging. Much of the work here is done by Apple’s new H2 chipset, which includes a host of custom amps and drivers in an effort to deliver sound that’s a major improvement over the original AirPods Pro model. These earbuds also support Spatial Audio, providing a more immersive experience in supported music, as well as movies and TV shows.
As well as offering that new H2 chipset for better sound, the second-generation AirPods Pro also bring some handy quality-of-life features over the first-gen model with improved battery life (up to six hours) and a case that also supports Apple’s U1 chip, bringing the powers of the ‘Find My’ feature to your earbuds. The case itself, like the earbuds, is IPX4 water-resistant, meaning they can handle light splashes of water – handy in the rain or if you’re at the gym, working out.
There you have it, a bunch of fantastic Prime Day deals on some non-gaming tech that I spotted today. If you want to take advantage of them, go ahead, but for everything else, check out the multitude of other Prime Day items we have available.
