Let’s move on to the Philadelphia Eagles connections …
‘Hard Knocks’ Episode 3 Key Takeaways: Free Agent Frenzy, Brian Burns, Saquon Barkley – Big Blue View
As the situation unfolded, the Giants — John Mara in particular — were hoping the Philadelphia Eagles wouldn’t be the destination if Barkley accepted an offer from someone else. “I’m going to have a hard time sleeping if Saquon goes to Philly, I can tell you that … he’s the most popular player we have, hands down.” When the Giants learned from Berry that Barkley had an offer, which they didn’t know but could suspect was from the Eagles, above the $12.5 million APY with $25 million guaranteed, the Barkley-Giants era was over. “We’re not going there,” Schoen told Berry. “We’re out.” Schoen had one question for Berry: “Is it in the division? I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for what’s going to happen.” » As director of pro personnel Chris Rossetti read the final figures of the three-year, $37.75 million contract Barkley agreed to with the Eagles to Schoen and Mara, the co-owner could only offer a resigned, “Okay.” “Everything’s going to be OK,” Schoen said. “I think everything’s going to be OK, too,” Mara said before leaving Schoen’s office. “We’ll see. As I’ve said before, I believe the Giants and Eagles made the right decisions regarding Barkley.”
2024 Fantasy Football Player Profile: Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley – PFF
His efficiency numbers aren’t as good. The Penn State product had an 85.2 overall grade as a rookie in 2018, but he hasn’t been able to replicate that level of success in any season since. The Giants’ offensive line is partly to blame for Barkley’s lackluster efficiency in the run game. However, even on perfectly blocked plays, his numbers don’t stand out compared to other players. Even his receiving efficiency has been average since his rookie season, and that aspect of his performance is less dependent on the offensive line. Barkley still feels like one of the best running backs in the NFL, even if his numbers haven’t borne it out in recent years. He signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles that puts him in the top five at the position in total value, average per year, and total guaranteed money, and he leads his peers in total guaranteed value.
My Top 5 Reasons to Be Optimistic About the Eagles in 2024 – BGN
The problem with Jalen Hurts last season was what made him so incredibly good the season before: turnovers. In 2022, he threw just six interceptions. Last year, he threw 15. He was also beaten down by play calling (which we’ll get to in a minute) and his inability to beat even the simplest blitzes, two issues that will likely be fixed in 2024. I don’t know if Hurts will be an MVP candidate again, but I think it’s more likely than not that he’ll become a more efficient runner and, as a result, a top-five QB again. If so, the Eagles are going to win a lot of games.
Letters to the Editor: Should Eagles sign or trade Justin Simmons, Matthew Judon, Noah Brown or Treylon Burks? – PhillyVoice
BirdGang54 Question: What teams have good or interesting depth at WR that could part with a player the Eagles would be interested in signing? If a team were to part with a receiver, he probably wouldn’t be worthy of a WR3 role. If the Eagles want to address that position in a meaningful way, it would probably have to be done via a trade. The two players that make sense to me are Noah Brown (Texans) and Treylon Burks (Titans). Brown is likely the WR4 in Houston behind Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell. He’s been in the NFL for six seasons and it’s taken him a while to become a productive receiver.
NFL offseason rankings: No. 11 Philadelphia Eagles look to bounce back from nightmarish end to season – Yahoo! Sports
The crystal ball says… The Eagles are incredibly hard to pin down. I would understand if someone ranked them in the top five in the NFL. It’s just hard to remember how bad they were at the end of last season. Go back and watch them get completely outplayed by a mediocre Buccaneers team in the playoffs for proof. It was a complete failure at every level of the organization. And don’t underestimate the losses of Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox. We’ll see how the Eagles respond to Nick Sirianni being on the hot seat. It’s possible the Eagles are the best team in the NFL this season. But until they prove that the end of the 2023 season was a fluke, let’s put them in second place in the NFC East, but with a wild-card spot.
5 candidates to become Eagles’ training camp darling in 2024 – NBCSP
RB Kendall Milton. It would be a bit unfair to mention fourth-round pick Will Shipley here, though he has the potential to make big plays. But keep an eye on the Georgia UDFA. Milton is a big back, listed at 232 pounds, and he could have the ability to use the truck stick in practice or a preseason game. As a senior in 2023, Milton had 121 rushing attempts for 790 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. He’s not much of a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield, but the Eagles have other guys who will. Milton is a bit more unique.
Judging the overreactions to the 2024 NFL offseason: Signings, draft – ESPN+
Dak Prescott will sign with another team next spring. Verdict: NOT AN OVERREACTION. To be clear, this is NOT what I’m predicting. I still think the most likely outcome here is that Prescott and the Cowboys find a way to work out a deal before he becomes a free agent. Hell, they could even work one out before the start of this season for all we know. But if they don’t finalize anything before or during the season, I think it would be a huge mistake to rule out the possibility. A partial list of teams that could be looking for new starting quarterbacks next spring includes the Raiders, Giants, Jets, Saints, Steelers, Titans, Rams and Seahawks. There would absolutely be a market for Prescott — who led the NFL in touchdown passes in 2023 with 36 — if he’s available. By then, he and his agent will probably know who’s interested and at what level. The Cowboys don’t want to get to that point. But again, it’s not entirely up to them to decide.
Cowboys’ offensive tackle woes extend beyond Tyron Smith’s departure – Blogging The Boys
Unfortunately, left tackle isn’t the team’s only concern in 2024. On the other side of the line, Terence Steele has yet to prove he’s back after an ACL injury in 2022 hampered him last season. Additionally, even at his best, Steele has never been exceptional in pass protection. That could be compounded if Guyton struggles on his end. Steele, like so many Cowboys offensive linemen since 2014, benefited from playing alongside the great Zack Martin. But Martin is entering his 11th season and, even with continued greatness, is starting to show his age at times. If Martin’s play takes a step back, it could also negatively impact right tackle. Beyond the starters, Dallas’ depth in OT is another consideration. One potential benefit of Tyron Smith’s departure is that it could put less pressure on them. Smith’s inability to play a full season since 2016 has been well documented, so maybe our replacements will finally get a break.
The 5 O’Clock Club: Playing Through Pain in the NFL – Hogs Haven
When Jefferson returns from IR, he almost immediately suffers a scary chest injury in Las Vegas that has him coughing up blood on the sideline. I remember watching this game live during the season and seeing video reports (on the broadcast or on Twitter, I can’t remember) of the ambulance taking Jefferson to the hospital before the game ended. There was no quick fix to get JJ back on the field immediately with either injury. A constant theme for Davante Adams in the early episodes (until head coach Josh McDaniel was fired and Antonio Pierce was promoted to interim head coach) is the injury hazard he faces due to Jimmy Garappolo’s habit of exposing Adams to big hits. “I gotta get the hell out of here before I lose my fucking life,” Adams says on the sideline during a Week 6 game against the New England Patriots. “I’ve never been hit so many times in my career. Every game I get beaten up.”
