Former Chibi-Robo! Developers Announce Robotics Action-Adventure Game koROBO for Consoles and PC

koROBO is an action-adventure game that follows the story of a pint-sized robot named “koROBO” and his owner, Tom, a young boy who receives koROBO as a gift from his father for his 10th birthday. Players step into the shoes of the small but mighty koROBO and embark on an exciting and heartfelt journey that begins in Tom’s bedroom and grows into an adventure that will change the world.

Sometimes it takes the smallest hero to accomplish the greatest destiny!

Somewhere in the Brocklyn neighborhood, nestled in the urban jungle of New York City, Tom and his mother are celebrating his 10th birthday. When a wrapped gift arrives from his father, Tom tears it open, eager to see what’s inside.

What he discovers is not the coolest, newest home robot, but rather some kind of knockoff.koROBO?”

But soon, KoROBO is cleaning the house, helping Tom with his homework, and even playing games and reading comics with him like a brother. What does KoROBO’s arrival mean for Tom, his family, and maybe the world?

koROBOThe story of ‘s takes place in Tom’s family apartment in Brocklyn, New York. Players take on the role of the miniature hero. As koROBO, they will help the family, perform tasks around the house, meet the many residents of the building, and defend Tom and those he loves from a mysterious enemy… who can travel through space and time?

■ Gameplay

Little hero, big adventure

koROBOThe main gameplay involves going around the family home, cleaning up messes and solving problems wherever they may be found – a difficult task for such a small hero!

Be careful though! koROBO’s battery is limited, and performing tasks will drain it even faster. While most popular robots require owners to plug in to adventure, Tom has modified koROBO to bathe in rays to recharge the solar battery attached to its back. Players will need to keep an eye on the sun’s rays to ensure koROBO continues to operate at full capacity!

As players explore Tom’s apartment building, they won’t just help him and his family. KoROBO will also meet a whole host of wacky residents going about their lives. As koROBO, players can talk to these characters and help them solve their problems to unlock some of his most powerful upgrades!

Better, faster, stronger

Players can collect items as they scavenge and explore to upgrade KoROBO and his abilities. While KoROBO will start out being able to run, jump, and glide, over time he will also be able to fly, swim, and even time travel…?

But wait, there’s more! koROBO isn’t the only toy in Tom’s sequel. Players will discover new miniature friends and get an assortment of accessories that will allow koROBO to adventure and sometimes even fight in new and exciting ways!

The parts that players will need to find for their upgrades can be found throughout the house, each with a rarity color indicating how difficult it is to obtain them. Players must collect as many as possible to upgrade koROBO!

The House of the Past Future

While koROBO has an entire apartment to clean and explore, players will be doing much more than just moving around the house while helping the family.

Eventually, koROBO will unlock the radical ability to travel through time, with a simple touch of his little fingers…?

A robot given to Tom for his 10th birthday, and the miniature hero of our adventure, koROBO is given to Tom by his estranged father.

KoROBO isn’t very strong, but he has a can-do attitude and a mischievous side. KoROBO helps Tom by cleaning, helping him with his homework, and more. But will he have what it takes to fill the void between Tom’s family?

Tom “Ten-year-old handyman”

A homebody by nature, Tom has few friends and spends most of his time in his room modifying his collection of toys and machines. While he rarely sees his father since his parents’ divorce, he occasionally receives toys and other trinkets from his father during his travels around the world.

Originally from Japan, Sally is now raising Tom alone in their Brocklyn apartment. Sally hates it when things are messy and gets frustrated when Tom says things that don’t seem to make sense. While she and Tom’s father had a whirlwind romance, she eventually divorced him when her wanderlust became too strong. Strong-willed and kind, she dreamed of becoming a singer but now works as a waitress in a coffee shop to make ends meet.

John “The King of Travel”

Tom’s father. Considered by some to be an eccentric and by others to be a genius engineer, John and Sally were madly in love in their youth. However, when Tom was five, John mysteriously left, leaving behind only a note that read: “I’m leaving to protect you.” Despite the distance between them, Tom clearly owes his love of mechanics to his father.

Garth Vader (Real Name: Unknown)

A suspicious figure has been spotted wandering the building’s courtyard. Many rumors have surfaced about the truth surrounding Garth. Some say he has fallen to the dark side and is plotting to take over the world. Others suggest he is simply the building’s janitor, watering the plants, feeding the birds, and taking care of the plumbing. However, no one actually talks to Garth, so the truth remains shrouded in mystery.

■ World

A world in crisis

The year is 2025 and the world is facing an impending energy crisis. Fossil fuels are rapidly becoming unreliable as an energy source and humanity is desperately on the brink. But even in these most difficult times, hope eternally reigns in the hearts and minds of those who believe in a better future. Just when the world needs it most, one little hero could be the catalyst that sets humanity on a new path, one that would change the course of history forever: koROBO!

The Brocklyn Apartment

While getting across a living room or kitchen might not seem like a monumental task, things seem a lot different when you’re a motivated little robot. While a stack of neatly placed books and an overturned chair can help koROBO reach hard-to-reach places throughout the house, it would be impossible for him to reach the hardest-to-reach places on his own. koROBO is going to need a little help!

Tom’s room

You might look at Tom’s room and see the messy room of a lazy child, but that’s far from the truth. If you look closely, you’ll see the workshop and playground of a gifted child, full of imagination and a natural inclination to work with electronics. Tom’s room is full of toys, tools, and electronics in various stages of tinkering. One boy’s trash is another boy’s treasure, and Tom’s room is koROBO’s treasure. What new treasure will be discovered as you explore Tom’s room?

■ koROBO Crowdfunding campaign and developer message

Tiny Wonder Studio is calling on fans for their support to bring koROBO to life. With the support of the community, koROBO will evolve through collaborative efforts between creators and enthusiasts, aiming to launch on PC and modern consoles if sufficient funding is secured.
