How many medals does the USA women’s basketball team have?
The United States dominated the Summer Games and won medals in every Olympics it participated in (it did not participate in the 1980 Olympics due to a national Olympic boycott).
In total, the United States women’s basketball team has won eleven medals: nine gold, one silver (1976), and one bronze (1992). The Americans have won seven consecutive gold medals since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Is Caitlin Clark on the US Women’s Olympic Basketball Team?
Indiana Fever star and Rookie of the Year favorite Caitlin Clark is not on the U.S. women’s basketball team.
This might be of interest to those who have heard his name countless times over the past year, but it makes a lot of sense. Team USA is prioritizing the experience of a team that has had plenty of success over the years, and Clark has no time spent on the international stage.
The other reason is that Clark, who was competing for a national title, was unable to participate in the U.S. training camp. Her absence likely played a significant role in the selection committee’s decision not to select her for the team.
Dawn Staley Comments on Clark’s Refusal
On Sunday, Dawn Staley, head coach of the South Carolina women’s basketball team and a member of the selection committee, provided some additional clarification on the decision.
“Caitlin is just a rookie in the WNBA and she wasn’t playing bad, but she’s not playing the way she’s playing now,” she said. “If we had to do it all over again, the way she’s playing, she’d be in a really good position to make the team because she’s a cut above a lot of players. She’s an elite shooter. She’s an elite passer. She’s got a great basketball IQ. And she’s a little more experienced in the professional game than she was two months ago.”
