It’s that time of year again: Amazon Prime Day is just over 24 hours away. The two-day sales event doesn’t officially begin until July 16, but we’ve started to see a few deals creep in during the run-up. Here at BA, we’ve already been scouring the site’s kitchen and home section, compiling our own wishlists. This year, our editors are looking to up their coffee game by finally buying our award-winning espresso machine and filter coffee maker. Making their backyard setup even more relaxing with a hammock. And even upgrading their kitchen faucets. Some of these tools aren’t on sale yet, but we’re hoping they will be on July 16 and 17 — and we’ll update the prices on this list when they do. Here’s what our editors are buying this Amazon Prime Day, so you can get some inspiration for your shopping cart, too.
A high-end immersion blender
If I could only have one blender, it would be an immersion blender. They’re super versatile and convenient, and even some of the more affordable models do a great job of blending and pureeing. Still, I’m ready for an upgrade, so I’m excited to see this powerful Vitamix model on sale. I’ve already added it to my cart. —Emily Farris
A hammock next to the grill
This summer, I made a big change to my outdoor cooking routine: I bought Kamado Joe’s Wi-Fi-enabled Konnected Joe, which means I no longer have to sit in a lawn chair next to my grill when I want to cook something low and slow on a Sunday afternoon. To celebrate this major life upgrade, I’m buying one of Yellow Leaf’s hand-woven hammocks. They’re UV-resistant, stretch to the width of a queen-size bed, and made from soft, weather-resistant yarn. I’ll be spending the rest of the summer lounging here while I monitor my pork shoulders and Campo Grande ribs from an app on my phone. —Carina Finn
A cheaper espresso machine than usual
I need a new coffee maker and have been on the fence about getting an espresso machine for a few months now, but I don’t want to commit to one because of the price. The Prime Day sale is softening the price shock, though, and this 27% off deal doesn’t seem so bad. —Megan Wahn, associate commerce editor
Insulated espresso cups
Yes, we’re all obsessed with that big, stupid mug, but what about the little, stupid mugs? I’ve been lusting after these mini Yeti mugs ever since my coworker Carina first took a sip from one on a Zoom call. I have a well-documented problem with drinking coffee fast enough before it gets cold. I know, espresso is a very small amount of liquid that’s purposely designed to be taken in one sip. I’m a sipper! I’m sorry! These mini mugs combine my love of all things mini and insulated mugs, and they’re 20% off right now. —Emily Johnson
A beach tent
I love a day at the beach as much as the next guy. I love packing a bunch of sandwiches, sipping on strong iced tea, and taking the occasional dip in the frigid water. The problem is that my delicate dermis gets fried like a pork tenderloin in the hot sun, so I have to do a lot to prevent that. I usually rely on a wide-brimmed hat, layers of sunscreen, and a big white sheet to wrap around my body, but when I saw this on sale, I finally decided to upgrade to a real beach tent. This one is super compact, easy to set up, and uses beach sand for weight. Hooray for not getting sunburned! — Wilder Davies
A way to perfect ice pellets
For years, I’ve had to make do with freezer-safe ice cube trays. But the thing is, ice cube trays are bad. They tip over, causing icebergs to form at the bottom of my freezer; they take up valuable space (I honestly wish all my cabinets were freezers); and my partner never forgets to refill them. Next time he asks for a drink after work, instead of passive-aggressively staring at him, I’d like to head over to our countertop ice maker, scoop, shake, and relax until the evening. The problem is, good trays are extremely expensive. I’m going to need a big Prime Day discount to justify the purchase. —Joe Sevier
The best trash can in the industry
Does everyone know that a high-quality, non-sale kitchen trash can will cost you between $100 and $200? I didn’t know that until a few weeks ago, when I decided it was time to upgrade from the cheap plastic trash can I’d owned for half a decade. I really want something that’s well-built, odor-containing, and beautiful. People online (including my coworkers) are saying this shiny stainless steel Simplehuman trash can is the perfect fit. The 50-liter version has been sitting in my cart for days because of my reluctance to spend that much money on something that holds trash, but having this baby in my kitchen would be a dream—and there’s no better time than Prime Day to finally take the plunge (and get it at a discount). —Tiffany Hopkins
An incredible coffee machine
While many people in American cities drink espresso to start their day, I’ve always preferred to slowly sip a cup of drip coffee. But preferring drip coffee over espresso doesn’t mean I’m immune to the pitfalls of high-priced machines. While the best drip coffee maker is less expensive than an espresso machine, you’re still going to have to shell out some cash. And when I say the best drip coffee maker, I’m of course talking about the Technivorm Moccamaster. I’ve had my eye on this machine for a long time, but it can be hard to justify the price tag, even if it makes the best cup—and even if I drink coffee every day. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the folks at Amazon have a surplus of Moccamasters that they’ve been sitting around for and just need to get rid of. —Carly Westerfield
A Kitchen Faucet Upgrade
I recently moved from a house to an apartment, and the hardest part was leaving behind the kitchen I spent nearly a decade customizing. To make the transition a little easier, I decided to replace the shiny chrome homeowner faucet with this industrial-inspired matte black beauty from Delta. It’s a pretty simple upgrade that completely transformed my rental kitchen. Even at full price, it was worth every penny, but right now, you can snag one on sale.
