NEW YORK — There’s bad news for Mets right-hander Kodai Senga, who was diagnosed Saturday with a strained left calf. He’ll be out for the regular season, but the team hopes he can return if the Mets make the playoffs in October.
The calf injury occurred in the sixth inning of the Mets’ 8-4 win over the Braves on Friday. As he left the mound to catch a fly ball from Austin Riley in the top of the sixth inning, Senga winced, grabbed his left leg and began jumping on the other. Senga fell to the turf in pain as trainers and other staff members ran from the dugout, surrounding him on the turf.
“It’s a serious injury,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Saturday. “So it’s bad news. It’s hard to give a timetable here, but I think it’s fair to say he’s pretty much done for the regular season.”
The Mets placed Senga on injured reserve Saturday.
