Man pretends to fall for a scam, leading to hilarious two-week back-and-forth

Whether it’s an email from a Nigerian prince or a fake email about antivirus software, almost everyone has encountered a crook. Yet most of us complain and ignore it. Only a brave few engage with the scammer, a practice called “scam”, where they give scammers a taste of their own medicine, leading them on and wasting their time.

One such brave soul recently captivated Reddit with a two-week saga in which he led the scammer to believe he was falling in love with their catfishing routine, pretending to form an intimate relationship and making the scammer believe he was about to gain access to a $4 million fortune he didn’t really have. Truly a work of art.

A Reddit user posted screenshots of their two-week-long online scam ‘scam’, where they pretended to fall for the scam.

It all started when Reddit user you/Zerilos1 started a conversation with u/Embarassed_Sky3455. The latter encouraged the former to download WhatsApp to continue to “support each other” in their investment goals. Show the conversation to r/scambaitthe subreddit assured u/Zerilos1 that the friendly financial advisor was indeed a scammer, who seemed undeterred by his hilarious story of a circus clown turned party planner who lost an arm to an attack dog of the police.

The scammer’s increasingly absurd stories, including being a circus clown and divorcing his wife because she “lost” their children, did not seem to deter the scammer.

Ultimately, u/Zerilos1 continued his “scam” on Telegram, expanding his story with an even funnier story of his ex-wife “losing” their children and then divorcing him because of his constant questions about where where they were. Reddit laughed at his blasé attitude towards (and the scammer’s acceptance of) the loss of his children as well as the fake photo of a muscular man he sent to the scammer in exchange for his equally fake photo of a young, attractive East Asian woman.

In the second installment, our hero introduces a theme that will predominate throughout the saga: he is a raging alcoholic who does absurd things while drunk that get him into trouble, but he tries to stop. This time, he was “again banned from entering the Panda Express.” He goes on to say: “It will take a week to decontaminate their fryer. » He predicts that he “went too far” and that the woman understood that it was she who was being scammed.

The scammer convinced the scammer that he was a wealthy but emotionally unstable and very gullible alcoholic.

Quite the contrary, things got more serious as the 14-part story continued. In the third part, u/Zerilos1 begins to tell his “future”, even though he has her saved in his phone, that he loves her. During this time, she invites him to come work for her at new York. Of course, she would need to practice first, and she could teach him how to “make money easily with (his) cell phone.” She also encourages him not to drink.

The scammer adds another layer of hilarity to the conversations by regularly checking in with the scammer, now known as “Lorraine”, about other scams he appears to be falling victim to. He also continually presents himself as an abusive alcoholic, although the scammer remains understanding and committed to their online relationship. Meanwhile, u/Zerilos1 shows his commitment by claiming to have bought him a engagement ring.

In part seven, Lorraine attempts to further her scam by asking u/Zerilos1 to download the “lucrative” apps Strike and Defi. He leads the crook on a car chase while acting technically inept and drunk.

The scammer tried to get the fraudster’s usernames and passwords for financial apps, but he always forgot them or faced a last-minute crisis.

After several stories of his drunken shenanigans, Lorraine is fed up. She leaves him an angry voicemail asking our protagonist: “Where is your brain” Nevertheless, she continues her scam and u/Zerilos1 continues her bait, assuring her target that she is the inspiration that will get him to stop drinking.

However, things take a difficult turn in Part 9 when our hero reveals that he has been talking to another woman, Sue. Cue the gasps. In maximum hilarity, we see that Sue is, in fact, another scammer following the exact same modus operandi as Lorraine. Naturally, she can’t point this out without giving herself away and just acts romantic and jealous.

The scammer even introduced a second love interest who was clearly another scammer with the same MO

In the tenth part, u/Zerilos1 is once again sure that he has ruined everything. Lorraine seems detached – even though she keeps reminding him to find his usernames and passwords for the apps. Yet in a move that will go down in scam history, he keeps things alive by saying: “The password is the only thing that seems to interest you.” …Before we work on cryptography, we must work on ourselves.

With newfound bravado, our champion enters Part 11 by doubling down on the absurdity. He claims to have woken up with a baby raccoon snuggles him and even sends a photo, followed by another of a family of raccoons invading his house.

Seemingly a misstep, the scammer searches for the reverse image in the photos and discovers that they are from the Internet. Yet u/Zerilos1’s supposed fortune is just too tempting, and Lorraine “forgives” him and tells him he can “make huge profits” with her.

Despite catching him sending fake photos, the scammer continued his scheme while the scammer continued to feign gullible love.

Somehow the drama manages to continue until part 12, as the Reddit user ties it all together by telling Lorraine that her long-lost daughter just arrived just as he was about to give her his usernames and passwords for the apps.

At the end of our story, Lorraine has had enough. She really wants u/Zerilos1’s Coinbase password. The problem is he doesn’t remember it. Sue helped install it, remember her? It’s been two weeks, and the scammer can’t take it anymore. She tells our hero that Sue was scamming him, and he responds by asking why she didn’t tell him sooner if she knew.

After two weeks and 14 posts on Reddit, the scammer finally gave up and blocked the scammer, only to contact them the next day pretending to be someone else.

The saga ends with Lorraine blocking u/Zerilos1 after 14 episodes, not a cent more for that. It seems the road is over for our brave crook.

Or does he have it? The next day, u/Zerilos1 posted again on r/scambait: “She contacted me again. She wants this money. Apparently, the same “scam center” contacted again, this time pretending to send a text message to the wrong person. It seems the Reddit user created the perfect backstory to trick professional scammers into wasting weeks of their life.
