Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s relationship may have collapsed because of the popstar’s “love addiction,” according to famous TV host and addiction specialist Dr. Drew.
Rumors have been circulating for weeks now that the 54-year-old singer and the 51-year-old actor were on the verge of divorce, and now a series of experts have weighed in on what could have gone wrong in the latter episode of TMZ Investigates, titled JLo. and Ben: Missed Warning Signs.
During the show, which aired Sunday night, TV star, podcast host and doctor Drew Pinsky, better known as Dr. Drew, 65, shared his thoughts on Jen and Ben, and he stated that his obsession with love might be to blame.
Film producer Jon Peters, 79, kicked off the conversation by saying: “She’s addicted to love, look at the men she’s been with. She can’t be alone.
“She needs a man in her life, she’s never really spent time developing herself.”
Dr. Drew then delved deeper into the topic, explaining that love addiction is real and can be extremely detrimental to a relationship.
“There are actually thousands of people engaged in 12-step programs who identify as love addicts,” he explained.
“Characteristics of this include not having big boundaries, they tend to get sucked into relationships easily and easily, they fall in love with people and once they get into them they can’t get into relationships. ‘get out.”
Jennifer has been linked to many men over the years and has walked down the aisle four times.
In 1997, she married producer Ojani Noa, but they separated after less than a year of marriage.
A few months later, she formed a relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, but they separated in 2001, after two years of dating.
After that, she soon married dancer Cris Judd, but they divorced in 2002.
She then started dating Ben, and they quickly became engaged – but they called it quits in 2004, just before they became husband and wife.
JLo exchanged vows with Mac Anthony in 2004 and they were married for over six years before announcing their separation in 2011.
And just four months later, it was revealed that she was in a relationship with dancer Beau “Casper” Smart.
They split in 2016 and the same year, rumors arose that she was dating rapper Drake.
It must have failed, however, because in 2017 she was dating Alex Rodriguez and in 2019 they were preparing to get married.
But in 2021, they called off the marriage and announced their separation. Shortly after, she reconciled with Ben and the two stars tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022.
Now, it is believed that they too are on the verge of divorce, as it has been reported that they are living in separate homes and trying to sell their $60 million Beverly Hills home.
They’ve remained tight-lipped about the speculation, but they stood together when they were seen holding hands at Ben’s daughter Violet’s graduation on May 30.
Photographers also caught them awkwardly kissing at her son Samuel’s basketball game a few days later.
They arrived separately at the sporting event and greeted each other outside; they opted not to smooch on the lips, but instead proceeded to have an air kiss, with Ben apparently patting his wife’s back, before heading to the event together.
Additionally, they both drove to their Beverly Hills office on June 14, but they took different cars, arriving within minutes of each other.
A source told DailyMail.com that Jennifer was “done” trying to make her marriage to Ben work.
“Jenny has had enough and she’s really tried but she can’t do more, it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse,” they said.
The source added that Jennifer felt like Ben was always “grumpy and negative,” which put a strain on their relationship.
“Ben is a great guy but he can be grumpy and depressing,” they continued. “I think the world saw that in photos like when they were at the Grammys last year; he wouldn’t smile.
“He chain smokes and swears and seems irritated most of the time. Great director and actor, but we don’t laugh a lot with him, you know? But he’s a wonderful father.
“He’s filming Accounting 2 and the hours are really long, he’s working hard at it and it’s a lot to juggle with marriage and kids. So sometimes he’s not in the best mood.
“Of course Jenny is sad, she loves Ben, but they’re just too different, there’s no give and take, there’s no mixing, they’re just on separate tracks.
“She really tried to make it work, but it didn’t work. She invested a lot of time and energy, and I think he did the same.
“There is no one to blame here. It just wasn’t planned. It’s very difficult for two big stars to maintain a marriage, one of them has to give in, and in this case neither gave in.
Despite the rumors, Jennifer posted a tribute to Ben in honor of Father’s Day on Sunday, calling him a “hero.”
“Our hero,” she exclaimed, alongside a still of him from his 2001 action film Pearl Harbor. “Happy Father’s Day.”
Jennifer and Ben don’t have children together, but they do have children of their own from previous marriages – the Jenny From the Block singer has twins with her ex-husband Marc while Ben has three children with his ex -wife Jennifer Garner.
