OMAHA, Neb. − Tennessee baseball is aiming for a 3-0 start in the College World Series.
The Vols (57-12) will face Florida State (49-16) on Wednesday (3 p.m. ET, ESPN) and can clinch a spot in the CWS best-of-three championship series with a win. UT topped Florida State 12-11 on a Dylan Dreiling single in its opener before beating North Carolina 6-1 to start 2-0 in the CWS for the first time in history from the program.
Tennessee would set a program record with a win, which would be its 58th this season breaking the record of 57 set in 2022 and matched this season.

Nate Snead is in to pitch the ninth inning. FSU’s Marco Dinges led off the inning with an infield single off Snead’s glove. Jaime Ferrer struck out after a long at-bat. Daniel Cantu came out too short. Alex Lodise lined up to end it.
The Vols win 7-2 and will face either Texas A&M or Florida in the CWS finals in a best-of-three series starting Saturday.

Tennessee 7, Florida State 2, top 9: Blake Burke throws HR
Blake Burke launches a long home run to right center to extend the Vols’ lead to 7-2. It’s the 20th homer of the year for Burke, who is the fifth Vol with 20 or more homers this year.
Tennessee 6, Florida State 2, bottom 8: Double plays help Kirby Connell
A 1-4-3 double play cleaned up an FSU leadoff single, and Kirby Connell pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. The Vols are three outs from the CWS Championship Series.
Tennessee 6, Florida State 2, top 8: UT’s lead remains four
With two on and two outs, Christian Moore went to shortstop to end the inning.
Tennessee 6, Florida State 2, bottom 7: Seminoles on the board
FSU’s Daniel Cantu and Alex Lodise hit back-to-back homers, and it’s the end of the day for Zander Sechrist.
Kirby Connell comes in and finishes off 7th FSU with consecutive outs.
Tennessee 6, Florida State 0, top 7: another two-out streak
With two outs, Billy Amick hit a double down the third-base line before Dylan Dreiling’s RBI single. Vols up 6-0 and nine outs from the final out.
Tennessee 5, Florida State 0, bottom 6: Zander Sechrist takes care
FSU had some hard hit balls, but otherwise Zander Sechrist was very good in six scoreless innings. He is at 66 pitches, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.
Tennessee 5, Florida State 0, top 4: Christian Moore RBI triple
Christian Moore lines a triple over the right field wall, scoring Cal Stark. Moore has reached all three plate appearances so far today. Flights lead 5-0.
Tennessee 4, Florida State 0, bottom 3: Seminoles baserunning helps Vols
FSU gets a single and a double to open the bottom of the third inning before two terrible ground plays help Zander Sechrist out of the jam.
Jaxson West is thrown out 15 feet home on a helicopter to shortstop. Dean Curley made a good read as West hesitated before heading home. Then a 3-6 double play ended the inning where Blake Burke walked first base before throwing to second base for the final out before Max Williams touched home plate. Williams wasn’t sprinting at the end of the play, but he would have scored if he had touched base on second.
Kudos to Sechrist for producing the critical ground balls, but FSU made a few unforced baserunning errors.
Tennessee 4, Florida State 0, first 2nd: 2-out walk turns into run
Christian Moore walked with two outs then moved to second base on a balk. Blake Burke drove in Moore with an RBI single. The Vols lead is 4-0.
Tennessee 3, Florida State 0, last 1: Kavares Tears is in CF and he makes a catch before crashing into the wall
Hunter Ensley hit the outfield wall when he hit a highlight during Sunday’s game and is playing DH after leaving Sunday’s game early.
Kavares Tears is at center on Wednesday, and he made an equally spectacular catch against the wall in the first inning. I mean, come on.
Tennessee 3, Florida State 0, top 1: The Vols offense is locked in
Christian Moore walked, Blake Burke singled and Billy Amick had a fielder’s choice RBI to score Moore. Dylan Dreiling then walked in front of a Hunter Ensley RBI single on a line drive to left field.
FSU makes a pitching change. John Abraham threw 18 pitches, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while getting only one out.
After another force out at second base for the second out, new FSU pitcher Brennan Oxford’s throw was not received by first baseman Daniel Cantu. Dreiling brand. Tennessee leads 3-0 after a half inning.
