Hornsent questline walkthrough for Elden Ring DLC

Hornent is an NPC that you will meet at the Three Paths Cross grace site at the start of Ring of FireIt is Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

He has a few cards to give you, but his questline becomes much more complex once you reach Shadow Dungeon.

Hornsent should also not be confused with Hornsent Grandam, who is another NPC you will find holed up in Belurat.

Hornsent Locations

You will meet Hornsent for the first time, not far away in the cemetery plain. He will spend time with Redmane Freyja at the Three Paths Cross Grace Site.

After defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight at Castle Ensis, he will move to the Highroad Cross grace site on Scadu Altus. He hangs out there with Needle Knight Leda. Their questlines intertwine a bit until Hornsent becomes involved in your journey into Shadow Keep.

The final location is an invasion outside the Bud Church in the Rauh Ruins region.

Hornsent’s first meeting at Gravesite Plain

From the start of Shadow of the Erdtree At Funeral site Plain Site of grace, you will follow the road towards the north. After the Scorched Ruins and your first Furnace Golem, you will arrive at Grace site in Trois Chemins.

Talk to Redmane Freyja and Hornsent and exhaust both of their dialogues. Hornsent will give you the Cross card which marks the location of some Miquella crosses.

Hornsent second meeting in Scadu Altus

Before meeting Hornsent again, you will need to go through Belurat, Tower Settlement and defeat the Dancing Lion divine beast. And then you will have to explore Ensis Castle and defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight.

After all that, you’ll find Hornsent and Needle Knight Leda at the Highroad Site of Grace in Scadu Altus. This time, Hornsent will give you the New cross map this marks a few more crosses from Miquella.

If you want, you can give it to him Scorpion Stew by Hornsent Grandmother. This gives you a bit of extra dialogue, but it doesn’t seem to affect their quest lines.

Lift the charm and return to Hornsent and Leda

Before anything else can happen with Hornsent, you must approach Shadow Dungeon. Just before reaching the front door, you will receive two messages: “Somewhere a great rune broke…” And “And so is a powerful charm.” Both of these relate to Miquella and the NPCs you’ve encountered so far.

Head inside Shadow Keep to unlock the Shadow Keep Main Gate Grace Site, but don’t fight it Golden hippopotamus Again. Instead, return to Grace’s site on the main road.

Talk to Hornsent and Leda. Make sure to exhaust both of their dialogues.

Summon Hornsent for the Golden Hippopotamus boss fight

Return to the Shadow Keep Main Gate Grace Site. This time there will be a gold summon panel to the right of the door. Summon Hornsent to help you in the Golden Hippopotamus boss fight.

You can continue as much as you want in Shadow Keep, but be sure to stop when (or before) you reach the Dark Chamber entrance grace site.

At any time after the Golden Hippopotamus fight and before the Messmer the Impaler boss fight, return to the Highroad Cross Grace Site. Check in again with Hornsent and Leda. Keep talking to them until Leda decides it’s time to start killing people.

She will ask your opinion, but you don’t have to decide anything yet. Ultimately, you’re just waiting for Leda to say she’s going to kill Hornsent – that might take a few rests at the grace site to trigger.

Before she can kill him, Hornsent will disappear. Check in with Leda again, then return to Shadow Keep.

Be summoned to help Hornsent or Leda

From the Shadow Keep Main Gate Grace Site, exit through the gate on the right (east) side and go up the ramp. At the top of the rampart, turn right and you’ll find a pair of summon signs – one red and one gold.

Here you have the choice: be summoned to help Needle Knight Leda Or be summoned to assist Hornsent. It ultimately comes down to Leda’s decision to kill Hornsent.

If you choose Leda, you’ll (try to) kill Hornsent and, unsurprisingly, end his quest there and then. However, you will still receive his drops, so that is an option.
If you choose Hornsent, you will be summoned to another world and will have to fight a spectral version of Leda (she does not die here). When you defeat her, you will receive the Swift Slash Ash of War and the Rune of Leda (worth 40,000 runes).

Summon Hornsent for the Messmer the Impaler boss fight

If you’ve done all of this, you’ll find a summon sign for Hornsent. inside the works in the fighting arena to Messmer the Impaler.

Of Entrance to the Dark Chamber Site of Grace, go through the doors and watch the cutscene. Before things get too hectic, check the ground behind you and to the right to find Hornsent’s golden summon sign.

After the fight, rest again Messmer’s Dark Chamber Grace Site. When you get up, Hornsent will be there with a little monologue. Let him talk about it, and then you can move on.

Hornsent’s invasion of the Bud Church

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Hornsent invades the Rauh Ruins region

The final leg of Hornsent’s journey takes place much later near the Bourgeon church in Ruins of Rauh. As you travel through the caves towards the church, you will be invaded by Hornsent just before reaching the Bud Church, main entrance.

Defeat him as an invader and he will drop his Fake curved swords, Caterpillar mask, Braided cord dress, Braided Arm WrapsAnd Soiled loincloth.
