With the summer solstice passing last month, we’re firmly in the hottest season. And this July, we’ve got a generous collection of compelling titles worth checking out. From some intriguing indie titles to Final Fantasy XIVThe latest expansion from and beyond, this month is full of games that look like they’re worth your time, many of which have free demos you can try right now if you don’t want to wait for the release date.
Final Fantasy XIV: Path of Dawn – July 2nd
Released on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
The latest expansion for one of the world’s most popular MMORPGs, Dawn Trail officially arrives on July 2, 2024. The holiday type extension will send players to Tural, a brand new continent. The new content also includes the Viper and Pictomancer jobs and a new level cap of 100.
The first descendant – July 2nd
Released on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
A free-to-play co-op third-person shooter, The first descendant is coming to consoles and PC on July 2nd. It features a cast of over 14 playable characters to choose from. Oh, and Aboubakar Salim (Assassin’s Creed Origins, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, The Legend of Vox Machina, The Dragon House) is in. I bet that caught your attention.
Zero zone without zen – 4th July

This free action RPG from the creators of Genshin Impact is coming to consoles and mobile devices on July 4th. Set in a post-apocalypse period, players take on the role of survivors clinging to what’s left of humanity’s desperate future, and in terms of design, ZZZ might just run the whole gacha show. feel much less squeaky.
The Legend of Heroes: Paths of Dawn – July the 5th

The Legend of Heroes: Paths of Dawn lets you switch from turn-based strategic combat to real-time battles in a unique take on two RPG formulas. The game launches on PlayStation, Switch, and PC on July 5.
Once human – July 9th
Released on: the Windows
An open-world multiplayer survival title, Once human immerses you in a world that has been devastatingly transformed by alien contamination. The game features third-person shooter mechanics as well as survival challenges such as searching for uncontaminated food and water as you do your best to survive.
Land waste – July 12
Released on: the Windows
Land wastea turn-based strategy game where you must survive on an alien world against powerful storms while unearthing alien technology, leaves Early Access on PC on July 12.
Darkest Dungeon 2 – July 15th
Released on: PS5, PS4, Switch
A sequel to the innovative and challenging 2016 RPG where your party suffers emotional and psychological damage as well as physical injuries as they venture into the monster-infested depths. Featuring roguelike mechanics set in a dark fantasy world where it’s up to you to guide your horse and cart through a dark and chaotic world, Darkest Dungeon 2 is making the jump to PlayStation and Switch after officially arriving on PC in May 2023.
Cataclysm – July 16

From the developers of the 2018 indie action RPG, Moonlighter, Cataclismo offers real-time strategy challenges in which you must build fortresses and defend them against all manner of monsters (including deranged frog-like beasts).
BadVEmal – July 16
Released on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
BadVEmal promises fast and bloody vampire first-person shooter gameplay. You and up to three other players can join forces to take on the role of vampires with unique playstyles.
Yaoling: a legendary journey – July 16
Released on: the Windows
Yaoling offers creature-collecting RPG gameplay in a semi-open world brought to life with gorgeous graphics. The game currently has a free demo on Steam ahead of its July 16 release date.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Destiny in Pieces – July 17
Released on: To change
Originally released on Apple Arcade in 2023, the co-op action roguelike that sends the titular Turtles on a quest to save Splinter from Shredder is coming to Switch this month. The game features up to four-player co-op, random power-ups, and upgradeable powers.
The sacred acorn – July 17

If you like Soulslikes but want something more adorable, you should check out The sacred acorn July 17. You’ll play as a squirrel on a journey to uncover the secrets behind an evil power that’s transforming the forest around you.
Bo: The Path of the Teal Lotus – July 18

With beautiful hand-drawn 2.5D visuals, Bo: The Path of the Teal Lotus offers a mix of action and platforming with aerial combat in a world inspired by Japanese folklore.
The Hinterberg Dungeons – July 18

Located in the Austrian Alps, The Hinterberg Dungeons sees Luisa embark on an adventure to explore various dungeons in an attempt to get away from her bland professional lifestyle at home.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn – July 18

Taking inspiration from the Soulsike genre, but with guns and aerial platforms, Flintlock; The Siege of Dawn is coming July 18th. There’s a free demo on Steam if you’re curious to see how such wild elements come together.
Meifumado – July 18

Featuring retro-style visuals that are both dark and alluring, Meifumado combines action RPG combat, non-linear level design, and samurai style. It will be released on July 18.
Kunitsu-Gami: The Path of the Goddess – July 19

This single-player action-strategy game from Capcom tasks you with waging battles against hordes of monsters in an endless day/night cycle.
Weyrdlets – July 23

Arranger: A Puzzle-Filled Adventure – July 25

Arranger explores the life of Jemma, an outcast looking to discover herself (mood). The entire game world is a puzzle-like grid, creating satisfying challenges to solve as Jemma moves and slides an entire row of the grid with her. There’s a free demo on Steam, if you’re curious.
Earth Defense Force 6 – July 25

Those pesky Ravagers are back, releasing colossal ants and covering the sky with their strange machines. Earth Defense Force series, EDF 6 arrives on July 25th to satisfy all your bug, dragon, robot and monster destroying fantasies.
Frostpunk 2 – July 25

Frostpunk 2 The game aims to go far beyond its predecessor. Now, instead of just battling the freezing temperatures of your environment, you will also have to manage larger cities, filled with competing interests between different factions.
Tokyo Xanadu eX+ – July 25

This tactical RPG features gorgeous pixel graphics, turn-based combat, branching narratives, and, how could I forget, a score composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, who brought us the melodic soundscapes of Final Fantasy Tactics And Final Fantasy XII. Convallaria’s Sword has a free demo on Steam if you can’t wait until July 31st.
